windup watch stops when I wear it

I bought an Indian Army issue windup watch.

Goes fine resting on the table.

Problem is that it stops intermittently when I wear it.

I have rested the watch at various angles on the table, but can't
reproduce the stopping without wearing the watch.

I assume the stopping is caused by expansion of a component from
warmth of the wrist.

What might the problem be?
