Re: any opinions on this eBay watch?

Nice try but not true - I don't have close focus anymore either (without
glasses) but just as a test I pulled out my wife's Bucherer auto which is
all of 20mm across and I had no problem reading the time at wrist
distance. We are so accustomed to and good at reading the time that you
don't need much information- witness the "museum" watch where a single dot
at 12 is sufficient. Now I'm not saying that I can read the "Swiss Made"
inscription (or the calendar) without glasses but telling the time is no
problem at all. Likewise I can read a chrono continuous seconds subdial
(which is all of 10mm across) no problem without glasses (we are so
familiar with hand positions that we can tell the time to the closest
second even without a chapter ring).

That "single dot at 12" means bupkes as far as telling the time. It's the
bright, wide and reflective hour and minute hands against a black field
which gives the time away, here at even 31mm.

Under slightly unfavorable lighting conditions I can't even make out the
thin metal second hand on a 39 mm wide circular watch at reading distances,
even using my bifocals. It's a nice feature that this particular second hand
has a white dot near its tip. Maybe that's why they put it there? :-) It's
certainly true that I don't need any second hand to tell the time, however
at a glance it tells me that the watch is running.
