Really nice work. Just curious how much you charged for such an ambitious project? I assume it was in a nice gold case that made it worthwhile.
Yes, especially the solder job.
hmmm, the solder blob on the battery clamp annoys me, but not much I could do about it since the clamp had to be made a bit longer.
actually if you have a look at the circuit board, all the components are hand soldered on, you could buy new crystals and trimmers for these years ago, Omega normally do an exchange on circuits (or used to), the old circuit was returned to the factory to be refurbished.
I have a circuit on order for another omega, cost to me is AUS$120 or so, just to give you an idea of the cost.
in the old days the cost of even an eta circuit was dear, nowadays you can buy the whole movement for a fraction of the cost.
Actually, aside from that, I agree it was really nice work, although a purist might argue against making those kind of irreversible changes to an older watch. Realists will say you took a watch that was unwearable and made it practical.
normally I don't like 'rodding' the movement, in most cases there is a silver oxide battery that is either the same size or very close to the old mercury one, but a 388 has no equivalent, and the 10month run time was really annoying the old guy, so I did the mod, at least now the new battery is similar to the capacity of the old mercury battery.
the really silly thing I find with this movement, there is another Omega movement almost the same, it is just a shade larger and uses a stock sized battery, why they didn't use a normal sized larger battery in this I have no idea, I suppose they thought the 388 would be used in other movements and would be around for quite a while.
