Yes, my ISP cut out "free" (bundled) usenet a couple of months ago (butthat doesn't worry me now, don't really use the binary groups, rather
forgot to cut my monthly fee). So I switched to Motzarella and it's been
great .. and you can't beat the price. Text only though.

That test was to see if it is the Optus server or it's backbones at
fault.
I was getting the headers, but all the bodies were missing. Using
their server, i can't even see my original test post's body, but i can
through the APN server and it obviously reached you, so i reckon their
indexing is gone up the creek. Dunno how hard it is to maintain
newsgroups, apparently it is a specialised job, but how hard could it
be to rebuild a frigging index ?
well with optus bozos they probably don't even know what an index is.
the problem. :)
the other problem with floptus is they clean out older messages to soonYep, although that was never an issue for me as i tend to get the news
eg, anything more than a month old is gone as was the case a little
while back.
every day at least once. Occasionally i may be away, but a couple of
weeks or so is all. Retention is 200 days at APN, which when you think
about binaries, is quite a reasonable one.
Shh.. i don't sell batteries that cheap. :)So i cracked the shits and went with apn(Forte's server). A bit
slower(not being a local server) but it's only 3 bucks per
month(12Gigs) and so far so good.
Mind you with 3 US dollars being 6,344 Aussie dollars i have to work
like buggery to cover it. ;-)
hmmm, one battery sale ;)
the status hah!, that only started working a couple of days when one ofYeah well, i went to Optus form Telstra for a very similar reason.
the drones decided to update it after being told it wasn't working.
optus as a company is just plain hopeless, would have told them to go
fly long ago if it wasn't for the fact the cable internet is so reliable.
Apparently Telstra worked a lot on their billing systems and other
problems, so might have to look at them more seriously again. As you
say, the direct cable and the hassle of updating zillions of people
with my new address is certainly a hurdle and i can't fault any other
part of their internet service.
In fact, i've just ditched OptusTV for Foxtel. I wanted an additional
box for my daughter's room and they quoted me 200 install and 25 bucks
per month. You'd think they'd have some system to see that the
customer is about to run out of his contract, so it's time to kiss his
arse again.. alas for them, they obviously don't.
Especially with Foxtel having a current offer of free install and
additional units at 20 bucks, with free IQ for 12 months, you'd think
they'd want to keep the customer somehow.. Btw, Foxtel charges $25.00
installation per additional unit for *existing* customers and these
two are supposedly joint at the hip. Strange.
