The gathering pallet may have fallen off, it has happened before. The pin
mounted in/on the gathering pallet, that lifts the rack, may also be
missing. But most likely the rack has flipped and the rack and pin, are
not making contact with rack. All of the above will cause the clock to
strike and never stop.

Hi,I
I'm looking for a bit of help please.
I have a circa 1840 long case clock that I believe has lost its gathering
pallet.
Being new to clock repair I browsed the internet to discover why my clock
chimes continuously until the weight is exhausted. It used to be ok until
moved house, then the trouble started.a
Can anyone suggest a good beginners book regarding clock repair,
particularly working out the shape required for my missing pallet!! I have
lathe and jig borer and do a "bit" of metal wasting so am keen to have ago
at repairing my clock.might
Amazon seems to have a number of titles on offer but working out which
be best is baffling me.
Thanks for any help
Dave
