A large battery is still used to achieve a long change interval. The Seiko 8F32 is supposed to be good for ten years using a Seiko CR 2412 battery.

On a side note, earlier Seiko perpetual calendar watches could be set using external buttons. This recent model requires the user to open the watch and touch various tabs with a jumper wire.
