I've seen a Limited edition (one of 300) Franck Muller Long Island
watch. It's white gold set with 1.5 carat diamonds around the face and
on the buckle. It's on for $25k
My question is do you think this watch is worth it at this price and
would these watches would hold their value in the long term? I'm not
really looking to buy the watch as an investment but would be curious
to know if you feel that the these watches would not be halved in
value after 20 years.
One other thing, it was a quartz watch, no date function on it which I
thought was a bit strange, asking that sort of price for a watch
without the mechanical movement
thanks for any advice offered
Are you referring to a gent's or to a ladies' watch?
For a gent's I would not go at all for a quartz, nor for diamonds.
For a ladies' it's not a big problem.
Basically FM is not the brand I would invest 25K in neither way. At
those prices you can get PP, JG, to a lesser degree AP, IWC, etc,
which are in any case much better value and long living styles. IMHO
FM's fad is already eroding.
Please look around all the various well known brands:

Personally, for 25K I would go for a JG reverso in gold and some
complication, resp. their classic round style. JG is really an
authentic manufacture, fully verticalised.
