The "Nixie" digital clocks use a specialized tube to display the digits but
are always mains driven. They were always too expensive to use for a mere
clock in commercial production - all the Nixie clocks are hobby projects
and today are usually chip driven. I'm sure some hobbiest has built an all
tube driven Nixie clock but I haven't seen one.

Indeed they have - and here it is. This is very likely the world's
first (and probably last) all-valve digital clock. Made by a hobbyist
in Germany, the sheer audacity of this project is really quite breath-
taking. As someone who has long admired valve Hi Fi amplifiers (both
for their sound and their aesthetics) I have to say I find this
