Mainly because, contrary to our best cheese, the export of wine is not
being subventioned and might be too expensive, resp. unknown for the
world markets, with the top class ones not being produced in big
enough quantities.

Note also that Swiss German pronunciation has a short flat "e" where the
High German has a long "e".

Yes, now that you mentioned it, I realised that it is true (I do not
speak high German that often, whereas the use of Swiss German is a
daily habit / necessity in the area where I live.
