You're being too touchy then. Jokes are just that, jokes.

No, Frank. Anti-gay slurs are just that, anti-gay slurs. That was
not a joke, it was an ignorant use of an offensive word.

It was not a slur, unless the OP took it that way. It was directed at
him, not you or me. And it was about as anti-gay as if he had said
"how true, you Yank". And guess what, you being Canadian may have
struck a smile.. after all, many Yanks are sick of the Canadians
making derogatory comments about them.

Almost every joke contains a reference to someone being coloured,
white, stupid, female, blonde, cop, Jewish, Irish, disabled, short,
fat, etc.. the list is endless.

This is not a comedy club, a movie, or a TV show. If a person is not

Life IS a comedy Paul. We're born for a tease. After all, just when
you finally paid your house off, put your feet up, look up and... it's
your children's inheritance. Who will sell it and blow the money on
chicks and booze, before settling down and getting their own houses
paid off and then they look up and... :)

IMO, Zarky's reply was sharp and right on the money in the context of
the OP's post and with that few sarcastic words he fully agreed with
the OP and maybe even with you too.

I disagree. Zarky could have used any kind of foul language and still
made his point. He chose to use an anti-gay slur because he knew he'd
get a pass. From his straight readers perhaps, but not fro me.

Take it as a mere joke and it doesn't hurt at all, dwell on it and
you'll become a bitter old man.

And take it as a joke and you'll become a jaded and desensitized old

Jaded ? We all become slightly jaded with age. Just ask SWG for an
expert opinion. ;-p Ah-oh, i made an old fart joke, he'll be crossed..

Desensitized ? Well, yes, you have to desensitise yourself or indeed
become a world hater. It's a big world, many things don't quite work
for me in it, so i'll concentrate on the important things, those which
do work for me.

man, Frank I'm really tired of straight people teling us it's just a
word, or a joke,. No, it's not. Too many people have been letting
anti-gay slurs slide and I'm sick and damned tired of it.

Ok, i didn't realise that you were on that side of the street and then
it's at least more understandable that it got you upset.

But think about it deeply, if you allow yourself to be upset about
things you can not change, that not only makes you bitter, but in fact
makes you just as prejudiced as the poster seemed to you.
You instantly believed that he was being rude towards your group, when
he probably never even thought of the actual meaning of the word.
You also completely ignored the humourous intent, because of your
rage.

Face the facts. The word is mainly in use by high school students and
the occasional adolescent. It is an "in" word and it will stay like
that for many years to come, to be replaced one day with something
else aimed at someone else. Unless directed at a gay person with
intent to slur, it is simply a word and nobody would think twice about
the real meaning of the word.
And to me, it's still just an old cigarette. :)

And btw, if you think you are getting the wrong end of the stick,
think about us smokers. Right now, being gay is almost a non issue,
some may say, it's almost hip... Unless you are a stinking, filthy,
passive cancer causing, air and water polluting, dolphin murdering,
child killing, cigarette smoking *** too.
