Why manual? If you go automatic there are far more to
choose from, and you can easily snag something for less
than 400 quid.
As an example, Mr Java suggested Nomos, but if you can
live with an auto you can get one of these for 300 euro:

I like plain dials. My current watch is a plain military style Pulsar.
