Personally, I am glad this thread was started - regardless of the
original intent! I don't know a whole lot about Kinetics and am glad to
see this information. The thoughts and experiences you all share is
extremely valuable. I am getting ready to write an article about
kinetic watches for my website and if I had not read this thread, I may
not have been aware of these issues. This will put a whole new spin on
the article.
My own preference is to go with "solar" or light powered watches. I
have several Citizen Eco-Drives and solar powered Casio Pathfinder and
G-Shock watches. The oldest is a six year old Eco-Drive. I had it
tucked away in storage for quite a while and the "secondary" battery
ran out. I put it near a window to get indirect sunlight and in a few
days it was back to normal. I set the time using my atomic G-Shock and
it is +/- less than one minute after approx. one month. The only
problem I have had with light-powered watches is if I use the auto
backlight feature on my g-shock and wear it all night while sleeping,
it will run the battery down completely. It can take several days for
it to get back to normal operation after that. However, after learning
that little lesson, my g-shock charge indicator has remained on high
for a long time.
Thanks for all of your thoughts and input. Take care.
Jay
