Re: Where to publicize pocket watch auctions?

eBay watch auctins?

Far from being a professional, I am learning PW
repair and practicing on lower-grade watches
like 7 jewel unadjusted Elgins, but when I put
them on eBay I don't know how to spread the
word. Usually they go for a single bid on the
last day. Sometimes I have higher grade watches
to sell but hesitate because I don't seem to
get god traffic. I don't mind seling practice
watches at a loss but it would be nice to get
more eyes looking at my stuff.

I don't want to break netiquite and post these
here, but coming from fountain pens where there
is Pentrace, the Zoss mailing list, 4-P's
mailing list, and alt.colecting.pens-pencils as
the major venues for posting auctions I had
hoped to find similar resources in the watch
world.

Any and all advice gladly accepted.

Ebay auctions themselves can be an effective way to advertise your
products. Many sellers fall short by not using key words and not
taking the time to use words and pictures properly in descriptions, so
a little time spent in preparation could place you ahead of the
competition. A word of caution about the watch fora. Most members
troll Ebay regularly and some are are more than willing to point out
poor pictures and descriptions that they consider to be misleading.
Having your auction listed as The Ebay Picture of the Day is not a good
thing.

I find auction listings in a discussion forum to be distracting and out
of place. Most online watch fora have separate sections devoted to
sales and no fee is charged. Check out PMWF, Seiko Citizen Watch
Forum, Watchuseek, Timezone. You might also look into creating your
own watch sale group. Alt.watchsales.antique or similar.
