Accuquartz 224 question

I just sold an Accuquartz with the 224 tuning-fork/quartz hybrid
movement. (Hums and smooth sweep second) I bought it a bit less than
a year ago, had to change the battery when I got it, it's run fine
since. It was running when I shipped it. Buyer says that it wasn't
running when he got it, he had the battery changed, it ran perfectly
for about a day then stopped.
I know it's a long shot, but is there any probable help for this?
(and off topic, my spelcheckr wants to change Accuquartz to Cumquat.)
