Thanks all.
Come to think of it.. Maybe the mechanical version is ruled out
beforehand, since the 6 seconds it may have lost since the day before
actually can make or break a race. But on the other hand, I totally
agree on it being a high price for a 50$ product.
As answer to the side note no. 2), I can tell you that one of the
owners usually wears a very advanced Suunto "wristtop computer", as
they call them. Whether he knows how to use it, I don't know. I have
seen him wearing som sort of analog watch as well, though..
