Rusty Movado

All,

I went on a 25 day trip to Italy and I noticed my Movado taking in
water.
There was nothing I could do at the time exept open it and let it dry
When I came back from the trip the watch stopped.

Previous to the trip I have had it (please don't flame me) in chlorine
water (swiming pool). Now that I know a little more about watches and
appreciate them much more. there will be no more of that abuse.
I suspect that is what rusted and corroded the stem and water got in
through the stem hole. The gasket looked good. I looked with my loupe
for and type of compromising ing the back plate and the crystal and all
"looked" ok.
I took it to a reputable watch dealer.

They estimated $257 dollars to fix
1.) replace the stem and crown
2.) replace the hands
3.) full service cleaning.

Now I am not complaining about the price because I respect the watch
repairmen very much and understand it could take a lot of time and the
watch needed some TLC.

I decided I would not spend that much money on the watch.

I brought it home and took it apart noticing that the stem was in fact
very rusty. The hands looked fine under the loupe and so did the crown.
There were two screws that hold the brass plate to the movement that
were rusted and the dial had a faint bit of rust.

I cleaned and lubed all that I could and I have to replace the battery.

I havea few questons in regards to this
watch.

1.) It is a standard 2 hand quartz model but I am trying to find the
exact model of this watch (see pictures). On the back outside case
plate the following numbers appear:
81 E4 9885
4780497
there is also a number on the movement
902 002

2.) How/where can I get parts for this thing?? Parts catalog? Would it
be wiser just to do a movement swap?? If so how would I order that?? I
have looked on ebay and on the net and no luck.

3.) Is there anything I can do to the dial to stop more rusting fromm
occuring?

With better news I finally was able to get the part for my Uncle's
(who's since passed) Citizen Elegance. It looks great I am really proud
of it knowing it was his. I went to the Citizen Website and saw the
guide to the caseback markings.
It had the number for the case and movement and the serial number. Is
there a way to decipher a model name or number from this information??
Does anyone have this type of watch or know anything about it??

As always thanks for your tips, suggestions, and opinions.
It has helped me in my maniacal watch repair abilities :)

take care now

... deal with the omega service agents here in Aus, only through Smith & Smith ... I will not guarantee any watch over ten years old for water resistance regardless whether it is actually water resistant or not and regardless of brand ... sure I fit new gaskets all the time, the case will probably be water tight, however if it should leak because of some minor case fault then YOU will liable for repairs to that watch, well maybe not in HK because I have no idea what your consumer laws cover, that is the case here. ... I have friend did a battery pressure test on a older Seiko divers, it passed his test, however a week later the watch came full of water, so he sent the watch to Seiko, they serviced it at a cost of $200 to him and a pressure test, of course he couldn't charge this to his customer and so had to wear the cost, week later the watch comes back full of water again, this time Seiko gave him a new watch just so they could avoid going to court, turns out the case back had tiny pinholes in some of the corners of the slots where the case tool fits. ...
