A nice idea, but perhaps too expensive as a mechanical watch. It would be
very easy as an electronic watch, but then you can already buy cheap
'talking' watches for about $20. A mechanical one would be prettier, but
then the blind generally don't often pick things on their (visual) aesthetic
quality. My mother is blind as are some of her friends, so I have had some
exposure to the sort of things they find attractive. Older people who have
been blind since birth or since a child often prefer Braille watches because
they can check the time discreetly without drawing attention to themselves.
They also tend to be more "tactile" and develop very sensitive fingertips.
People who become blind later in life with things like macular degeneration
prefer talking watches.
