These curly CFLs are short lived, and I've had 2 of
them now literally blow sparks and smoke. The cheaper they get, the

stench of burning plastic. My favorite thing about CFL's is the warning not
to screw them in by holding the glass part of the bulb. I'd like to see
someone manage to install a 23W CFL into a can fixture without touching the
glass. The only way that could happen is if they put two holes in the
plastic base and provided a tool that fit through the glass coil and into
the holes.


Go down to the drugstore and get a box of disposable lab exam gloves, the flat kind that can be used on either hand.
If you are allergic to latex, get the non-latex type.
I use the gloves for many things around the house. For installing halogen bulbs (no touchy, no breaky), for removing or installing flood or spot lamps from fixtures, especially if they are recessed ceiling lamps (better non-slip grip). Handling or applying anything that may stain your hands, etc, etc,.
My most often use is when airbrushing.



I will have to admit that the bulbs I've purchased recently have performed
much, much better than the bulbs I bought when CFL's first arrived. That's
why I am waiting out the LED's until they've been around long enough to work
out the bugs and to prove their claimed longevity based on actual use, not
estimates or aging tests. As the Who said "We won't get fooled again."
