Cloning and spoofing are a tactic of the Trolls. Their goal is to totally destroy a newsgroup simply because they can. They do it for fun and they are at it here.

They infiltrate the newsgroup slowly. First by staring and continuing OT threads. Political and religious based posting are their favorites. You see it here. There are too many pompous asses that cannot resist responding to those posts.

I warned this group about Harry a long time ago. Have you not noticed that he as at the root of most of the OT posting. If he didn't start it he does his best to keep it going. He and perhaps a few other trolls destroyed a few rec. boats newsgroups. Now they are having their way with this group.

He came here posing as Brit and occasionally introduces national/patriot topics to stir things up.

He is not a Brit. Look at his manor of posting and his language, it's American. A Brit will retain his Britishness to the grave, even if he has not been on British soil for fifty years. No self respecting Brit would ever alter his behavior to make friends with Americans, never, not in a million years. Harold is a Brit, Harry is an American. Why would he be here posing as a Brit if not to cause trouble?

Harry will have started using other ID's by now. He will be posting and responding to threads under several names to keep things going. He's like an actor playing more than one role in a play.

The Trolls will eventually establish one or two cliques in the newsgroups comprised of their own phony ID's and a few newsgroup losers that now feel like they are a part of a group of internet buddies.

Then the spoofing starts. Harry will post under the ID of a regular member of the group. He will insult another member or start a ridiculously OT thread. Then the flaming starts. Before you know it the losers will get involved and start spoofing on their own to defend their buddies. That's what happened in a few of the Rec.Boats newsgroups. They are now like an out of control school playground.

It's up to this group to stop harry. It can only be done by ignoring him. Every response to harry pushes the group closer to the edge. Harry, his phony ID's and those that insist on responding to his OT threads have to be shunned by the group, totally.

All of you have to exercise some restraint. There are plenty of On Topic excuses to start threads and if you like, making internet buddies.

If you see something in a thread that rubs you the wrong way there's a good chance it was put there to do just that. Your responding only encourages the trolls to push even harder

The sooner you all start acting like responsible adults the sooner the problem will go away. If not the newsgroup will go away and harry will just find another one to play in.

What's your part in this Mormon? Are you going to be the responsible adult or play the part of the fool?

My take is that it's a tossup if you are even real. You may well be one of harry's creations created to help him do his thing. Prove you are real by acting responsibly.
