Frustrating: RCA 27" TV, about 2 y/o, went nuts last night - keptWhat did it cost relative to the cost of the TV? Just curious.
cycling through the channels and turning on and off. The last TV
we sent to the dumpster was a Sony, only about 4 y/o. Hubby got
a name from a website, called the guy this morning. Said over
the phone RCA's like ours had a bad switch. Came out this
afternoon, quick fix. Not excited about the price, but about
what we expected. All biz, little conversation. Didn't know
there were still good repairmen around.
was somewhere about $400.
To fix it, it cost $135. That was
pretty good considering I wanted to
wait on the HD/Flat TVs until the price
comes down a little more and
after I move to a new city .... which is
currently in progress.
find out if it's worth fixing. Guy says about 125 less diag charge
and yes it was worth fixing because it was well built. Much heavier
unit than current 27's. Had it fixed. Lasted about 7 years more.

Unfortunattely for every story like that there are 10 where the
repaired set craps out 6 months later.
Thats why I got out of the TV repair business.

Back in the early 70's I replaced a lot of 25" picture
tubes with rebuilt tubes. I wonder if anybody rebuilds
picture tubes anymore?
Museums? :-)
It was the same thing with those
dastardly mechanical tuners. Pull it, send it off to be
rebuilt. Oh, the old days, how I don't miss them. Well,
my joints didn't squeak and creak as much back then.
