Have you read about Germanys solar program, My numbers are not exact
but as I remember 1/3 of Germany will be solar by 2025 and they are
well ahead of schedule by 5 -10 years. The people installing solar
make money doing so by getting aproximatly .25cents kwh. It is
business that makes purchasers of solar money considered safe enough
that banks loan for it. Charge for public use is over .30c kwh.
Germany is the largest purchaser of and maybe producer of solar cells
now. To say it cant be done is not true, it can be done with
incentives.

There's the key--it's not economical w/o artificial incentives.

I've looked for and never found published the actual grid production
figures; only rated installed capacity so it's not at all possible to
evaluate from anything I've seen the actual effectiveness of removing
any conventional generation.

And, afaict, the sun still sets at night, even in Germany, requiring
there be alternative generation for that significant fraction of the
time. Overall, I'm still not convinced they're getting anywhere
particularly advantageous except, perhaps, w/ keeping their lunatic
fringe "greens" from doing yet more damage.

Why isnt Ng pushed for cars, ...

Inconvenience, mostly. Very few consumers would want the hassle of
filling LP. It's suitable for fleets, etc., and the enthusiast but
not likely to hit it off w/ the masses.
in utah it is I believe, Honda had a Ng
....
... We have enough Ng to not export our money for
energy but make jobs here to keep money here to benefit the US.
Importing hurts everyones standard of living here and makes us
suceptable to conflict. If we didnt need mideast oil there would be no
wars going on, we would not have been there pissing them off in the
first place.

Read Tboone Pickens initive that he is bankrolling, Ng cars and wind,
wind is free. The real point is we have no energy policy to change the
future.

a) If that were true, why are we also importing LNG and why did it go
to >$10? We have reserves, but they're worth far more for other
purposes than to waste in central-station generation and for vehicle
power.

b) The mideastern conflict has been going on for thousands of years
between some of the participants and approaching 1000 for most of the
rest. That far predates oil as a commercial commodity and removing
all the oil wouldn't solve the cultural, political and religious
differences. Witness a lesser version in N Ireland and the Balkans
essentially independent of any such side issues.

c) T Boone isn't telling the whole story. Wind is much like solar--
the energy source is inexpensive but is diffuse and not reliable.
I've posted before the output of any of these sizable wind farms even
in very suitable locations is never more than 40% of installed
capacity and can have periods of as much as a month of only 20% (data
from EIA files). This is also, inconveniently at mid-winter and late
summer when peak demands are highest when the prevailing winds are
least active. What this implies is the need for reserve conventional
generation and the present most likely candidate is, unfortunately,
gas turbines. Now, where did T Boone get all that money to begin with
and why do you suppose he's really pushing wind again? (Hint--It's
not all to do with the wind alone.)
