I got one of those small portable DVD players. I got it mainly for

I wasn't looking for anything complicated or costly. I picked up a
cheap model and it works pretty well for the price. The only problem
is that the sound volume is too low. At full volume it can only be
heard about 10 feet away at most, and if there's traffic outside I can
barely hear it. The thought occurred to me to connect it to a car
stereo, but then I got to carry all that stuff around plus a car
battery.
Then it occurred to me to consider the amplified computer speakers
that contain a couple D batteries. The DVD player has a earphone
jack. Can these computer speakers be connected to this earphone jack?
There is also 2 audio and one Video output jack (RCA jacks), but PC
speakers have mini jacks in stereo. I actually intend to combine the
2 channels inside the speaker if this works. I dont need stereo or
want to haul 2 speakers around.
for the house, buy the new home theater amplifier you always wanted.
put the old amp and speakers in the garage. or buy outdoor speakers or
automotive speakers and a tuner/amplifier.for the garage. run the
input aux to the jacks or adapters you wish. for in-car use, see if
you can transmit the dvd audio output on a transmitter adapter into
the car's fm radio receiver. [look at ipod transmitters]. or new car
audio can have mp3 jack on the front as an input. you might find an
input mp3 jack on newer clock radios. or you might transmit the audio
to noise reduction wireless headphones. with headphones, put your
pocket cellphone on vibrate to stay in touch with the wife.
