No -- folks are simply
not equally talented, and
playing at a respectable
pro level requires a
combination of talents
that some of us have and
some of us do not. It's
really that simple --
practice can only make as
perfect as your physical
and intellectual abilities
allow, iow it's an
essential factor but not
enough by itself. E.g. if
your hands aren't athletic
enough you're not going to
be able to play as fast or
as clean as you might
like, and if your brain
can't grasp how music is
structured you'll be
limited in what sorts of
music you'll be able to
play well.

I agree with that, but the there is also the other side of the coin. If you don't practice/learn a lot your innate abilities will not be exploited to the full. We has this discussion in the beginners group a few weeks ago, and my position is that it is "nature + nurture".
