i'm looking for a new amp because my marshall mg30fx really isn't
cutting it when it comes to playing gigs and such. the amp i'm
looking for needs to be able to get really nice pristine fenderish
cleans when playing really loud. i need to be able to be heard over
our drummer who doesn't seem to know the meaning of play quieter. it
also needs to have a really nice crunchy sound. i'm thinking along the
lines of older van halen type crunch. i also want to be able to
switch to a boosted lead tone (boosted both in volume as well as
distortion) i want to be able to get metallica and joe satriani type
of sound, but i also play quieter stuff so i need to get hendrix and
zeppelin tones. i'm thinking anything with 2 power tubes should be
good for the clean headroom as well as rich overdrive. my budget is
anything under 1000. i would really really really like it to be less
though. around 500. i really want it to be a tube amp, but i'm always
open to look at ss if it's really good. i know this is way too long
and most of you won't even read this far but thanks in advance to
anyone who did and especially for helping me out. :)

Any clean amp with a distortion pedal.. Channel-switching is over-rated.
Get a Peavey Classic 30 or 50 and a Tube Screamer.

Don't make it any harder than it should be. Nugent's been using that rig
for years..
