...I'll listen to them, but I haven't bothered trying to play much of
them...couldn't say I "hated" them, though.

What I have found is that playing them made em appreciate them more.
But for some reason, nobody I knew wanted to play any of their
stuff until the mid '90s.

There's a lot of stuff that I stick to playing just for myself - either
because I like it, or because I think it's just good finger exercise.

I can't think of a single Beatles song I'd do that with...but that
doesn't stop me from owning a few Beatles albums and listening to them
on occasion. Even though I'll listen, there's nothing about them I
could say inspires me to pick up a guitar.

OTOH, "Slow Down" is a great riff to throw a sub octave at and crank up
*really* loud and dirty. I think that's about the only Beatles song I
might consider playing in public...that way.
I love the Beatles...best band ever...BUT I can understand that. I
think they are the best BAND ever, but not necessarily the best
GUITARISTS ever.

"band" I dont know about. Best collaborative unit to me, was always led
zeppelin, altho many will disagree. Songwriters, hands down, Beatles. And
they play and sing beautifully, as well.

...ok...I was about to say that, and clucked out...so I'll agree here -
Zep rules!

there are other great collaborative bands that i think are arguably "better
bands" than the Beatles... ZZ Top, having watched those guys close up now
two or three times, damn, they're just a machine. The Stones in their glory
years. I'm am NOT saying the Beatles were not a good "band". To me they
seemed to end up becoming this sort of purely studio songwriting thing,
where often, it was not very collaborative. theres nothing wrong with that,
its just how i define "best band" I suppose.

....same for Pink Floyd, if ya go that route. Bands come, bands go...
