College Rock covers everything from Romeo Void to The Long Ryders. To
say you didn't like college rock is basically saying all you liked
were the establishment bands like Judas Priest (hey, I liked the hell
out of "Sin After Sin", BUT NOTHING ELSE) and Van Halen (Hey, I liked
their debut, BUT NOTHING ELSE). College rock was a term applied to
bands who got the bulk of their exposure throgh "college radio". It
didn't have a damn thing to do with "going to college". So, you
obviously have no idea what "College rock" was.

Bands like The Smiths, Prefab Sprout, Robyn Hitchcock, The
Replacements & Richard Thompson didn't have a damn thing in common
musically or styalictically, they just never were played on BIG 93
like the hair bands.

To say you didn't like "college bands", well... that's pretty stupid,
to be honest. What, you thought they were all the same?

I'm not going to write a thesis about it... There are bands that at that
time - early to mid 80's - appealed to college-aged white kids. Much like
Rap does now. When you say 'Romeo Void to The Long Ryders' - it means
nothing to me - I've heard of neither.

What I'm trying to say is - I NEVER strayed from listening to the bands I
liked. Motorhead/Venom/Nugent/VH/Cheap Trick/Priest/etc. were all putting
out albums in that time period, and that's what I liked. I did NOT go for
the flavors of the day that were being pushed on college radio.

Now - you mention 'establishment bands' - If you remember, in '79 - the
dawn of the NWOBHM was upon us - Maiden, Saxon, Demon, Girlschool, Raven,
Tank, etc. were FAR from establishment. Even Def Leppard were upstarts
with two great albums...

I liked hard rock and heavy metal - not jangly Rickenbacker songs about
'shiny happy people'... And if you take your list, and my list - yes, you
will have more similarities with your bands, and I'll have more
similarities with mine....

No need to call it stupid.
