Since you are a Gibson Guy I have a question for you. I have been
looking for a sound that is cruchier than a Strat but not as muddy and
midrangey as a Les Paul Standard. I was thinking maybe Les Paul Deluxe
with the mini humbuckers What do you think?

Well I can't help because even though I tend to be a Gibson guy, I am
not a Les Paul guy. I lean towards SG's, Firebirds and other Gibson
"type" guitars like Hamer USA's. I really like the 90's Hamer Special
FM. I would think an SG would fit your description though.
