I think I might finally have realised that one shouldn't hide the midrange.
On my distortion pedals with a 3 band EQ I have now resisted the habits of a
lifetime (20 years at least) and I'm not turning midrange below 12 o'clock.
On my Keeley/Boss DS-1, I'm leaving the tone around 10-11 o'clock.
Result: tones that cut through, rather than getting buried. Tones that
actually work with a wah-wah.
That said, I still like some bottom end. On that basis, a standard Boss
Super Overdrive would not be suitable for me.
What is concerning of course, is how bad my tone was in my garage band back
in the early 90's, using a Boss HM-2. I can't turn back time, so I just
have to block the memory.

ah yep.... elec guitar is all about the mids (at least in live
band situation). mids is what makes or breaks you... the main course.
treble and bass are just salt and pepper to taste.- Hide quoted text -

But I grew up on pepper, and like it... e
