There's only about a 4 dB change from 15W to 40W.
That means that different speakers could easily make the 15W amp LOUDER

i agree with you to at least 100%.
My 5E3 with an Alnico Blue (100db/Wm) is at least as loud as my SF Vibrolux Reverb with its stock CTS Alnicos as well as with RI P10Rs.
I bet the efficiency of those 10s is much lower than the Blue.
The 5E3 is loud for its size. No problem to compete with a live drumkit. The VR is also loud enough. But 12W vs 40W????? Both amps sound great, but the perceivible loudness is not really that different.
Love them both. Different animals, both nice
