It had to be the loudest 18 watts I've ever heard. It's nothing like the
usual 18 watt Marshall clones out there everyone seems to have (which to me
don't really cut it) but this Budda amp absolutely can hang with a full band.
It's not a great rhythm amp (imho) it just doesn't have a good range of
loud open cleans to crunch and beyond. But for lead work and semi-distorted
crunchy type rhythms it definitely is a good amp. It also packs a nice
mid honk/cut (but again, I really wouldn't want this lead tone all the time
for rhythm work).
So anyways... ok... this is probably the first and only 18 watt amp
that could really rock it out and gets incredible punch and volume.
Maybe it's the 2x12 cab (instead of 1x12). The speakers just say 'Budda'
on them with some swirly purple design on the back and I have not really
gone into finding more about the amp. It's a "Super Drive" and that's
about all I know. He played with an Ibanez (a nice MIJ Ibanez)
yeah sure, I have a silverface deluxe reverb at home (22 watts, 6V6 powered)
and it is one of the best sounding clean to mild tube saturation amps I have
ever played. I'll never give that amp up! But it just can't rock it out
like this Budda amp could do last night. When it was cranked up you
could actually 'feel' it, not just hear it. I played through it a little
bit and it was a beast. (in a good way). He only had a few pedals (chorus,
flanger and delay) and that was it.
So ok... I officially will say that it is possible to rock out
with this Budda 18 watter. But I'm not saying you can hard rock out
(un mic'd esecially) with a Blues Jr or Epi Valve Jr
or Tiny terror or whatever other flavor of 5 - 15 watt amps out there.
I mean hard rockin - not mic'd up bloooze or whatever.
I didn't mean to cause any fuss on my previous (you can't rock hard with 15 watter)
but I guess there is some seriousness in what I'm saying. You have to FEEL
the amp, not just be able to mic it and hear it.
Given the last troll post that you created stating that '15w amps
cannot rock with a band', this post is almost comical. I guess that
extra 3W made ALL the difference, eh?
The bottom line is that a good 15/18W tube amp will not have a problem
cutting through the mix in 99.99% of venues that gigging bar-band
musicians will EVER play in. This is a simple fact, and one that you
conveniently choose to ignore repeatedly in the prior post.
