Re: Fender 1984 Japan Strat "buzzing"

1.) We're still not clear as to whether the hum happens when
the guitar volume is at zero.

2.) As Jochen brought up, sounds like you're using coated strings.
These prevent an electrical connection from body to guitar earth.

It is normal for single-coil and unshielded guitars to hum in noisy
environments... perhaps there is a dimmer switch near you?
Fluorescent lights? Plenty of other sources (like, diathermy is
still popular?) available for electrical noise.

What most of us do:
1.) Get rid of noisy stuff we can lose... mostly cheap light dimmers.
2.) Keep hands on the strings (uncoated!) during quiet passages.
3.) Use humbuckers/EMG's/cavity shielding.
4.) Turn volume down between songs.

OK, just tried it.
1.It is dead quiet with the volume on zero. I did notice that as I
turned the volume up...it got progressively louder, it's loudest point
being 3/4 ways up, then a little less at full volume.
2. Strings are plain steel, not coated.
No dimmer switch, but it is failry close to the computer.
Later today I will make sure the sheilding I put in has good
continuity...that may be part of the problem.
