Re: What guitar is the worst to re-string?

Mine is my Rickenbacker 330-12. Here are some pictures of it with
the nice new white pickguards and a shiny new set of strings. The
engineers at Ric are nuts, check out the head arrangement on that
sucker.

Hmmm....interesting reading all the responses in this thread. They
pretty much hit all my guitars that have non-standard
stringing/tuning issues.

Agree with the Ric-12. I've got a 360, the thing I learned is to get
all the strings off at the same time, flip the tailpiece over and lay
all the strings on it where they're supposed to go and lay some
Scotch tape over the assembly to temporarily hold them in place.

Then, once they're secure, start feeding the strings one-by-one
through the bridge.

Now take a look at that headstock. There's a *logical* order to
start winding the strings on. Do the ones where you have to access
the semi-hidden pegs first, starting with low and high E strings and
working your way inward. Then repeat with the "normal" pegs.

Then rip that Scotch tape off and you're good to go.

That tape idea is something worth trying. I swear, though, the
machine setup is ridiculous. I don't play the guitar enough to have a
real bead on which head to twist for which string and in which
direction.

Yeah, that takes a bit of getting used to. I guess I play mine enough
where it's second nature.

For example, if the high octave D string is out of tune.

Another thing, Does your 360 have the lower (octave) string on the
top? Mine does. It seems like that's opposite from most 12s.

Yes, it is reversed compared with most sounds. The claim is that this
contributes to an extent to Ric's characteristic sound. By the way, the
360 is identical to the 330 except that it has a stereo output in additi
on to the normal one.

I got so used to the string order on my Ric that when I bought an
acoustic 12 string recently, it took a while for me to get used to
"normal" 12 string order!
