Awhile back I asked for advice on this guitar, and ended up buying it.Glad to hear you like it mate. I get the buzzing issue with my Strats
I have posted here many times about being a Gibson guy, but always
wanting to find a Strat I could love. I've owned a bunch over the
years and could never bond with one.
This one is different. It's funny but the Fender type 1 bridge in
combo with the locking thing (not really a nut) really works well,
finally a Fender bridge that works, and the guitar stays in good
tune...and that's with a really nice floating bridge.
This guitar also sounds incredible, better than any strta I've ever
had for sure.
I still have single coil hum issues, and the guitar is fairly quiet in
pos 2 and 4...which works for me.
I have one question though...other than the single coil hum...I do get
some "electric buzzing" when not touching the bridge (fairly hard). I
know this is fairly common with strtas, this seems like a little more.
The ground seemed fine, and it's definitely tied to the bridge
correctly too. Any ideas on this?
Anyway, this may finally be my Strat. It plays better than any I've
ever touched, sounds better too. It's funny that I ended up with an
"oddball" Strat and that's the one I ended up liking.
I also like the fact that it is basswood (I think) and it is much
lighter thatn other strtas I've had too.
(bar the EMG's). In a live situation its not loud enough to be noticed
till a high gain pedal is used. AT that point either roll the volume off
or put your hand on the bridge. I do it out of habit now and when I use
the Blue EMG'd Strat I have to remind myself that I don't need to worry
about it.
Its a single coil issue that really has no answer, 9 times out of 10 I
just roll off the volume between tunes, that easy. I never even notice
I'm doing it any more.
My lightest Strat is my 50's RI, I'm liking it more and more as I use
it. Played the old Squier yesterday tho (working on Angel of Harlem) and
boy I should play that thing more. Its freaking awesome. Having 3 great
Strats is a real issue, I feel like I'm neglecting them sometimes.
Mark
I've though about tying a wire around my wrist and tying it to the
bridge (I bet someone's done that already)...but I'm afraid of getting
fried if something goes wrong and I can't drop the guitar.
I like EMG's, I have a couple of guitars with EMG active humbuckers in
them. I have thought about getting a loaded EMG pickguard for this
guitar, but I'm not ready to spend that kind of money on it yet. I may
in the future.
I actually have a brand new EMG ZAK Wylde set...never used...never put
in a guitar. I may be able to trade that for an EMG Strat set....hmmm.
Single coils all the way for me mate ;-) I like the EMG DG-20 but I love
the Dunc SSL-1's and Fender Fat 50's. How loud is the hum? Sounds like
it could be noisier than normal.
Mark
I think the pickup hum is about normal. I've been using humbuckers for
years and probably am spoiled as far as hum.
The electrical buzz thing, without touching the bridge (hard)seems
more than normal to me though. I think I will try an additonal ground.
Can't hurt I guess.
