The kids first concert thread got me to thinking about one of my pet
peeves which is seeing a band live and they butcher their own songs. I
personally detest it even if it's executed well.
One example is the last time I saw Heaven and Hell live (Black Sabbath
with Dio and Carmine Appice) and they ended the show with what seemed
to be a 30 minute version of the song Heaven and Hell. I mean c'mon
guys WTF? I am probably one of the biggest Sabbath fans in the world
and even I was literally yawning at about the 9 minute mark. It
doesn't help that I have the attention span of a goldfish but c'mon
already!
Anybody else have an opinion on this?
While I agree that going too far away from the familiar recording is
not good (to me), staying TOO close to the record is a little boring,
too. Case in point - Rush. They stick closely to the record in
concert. Sure, they go into an extended jam on Closer to the Heart on
some tours, but not much other than that.
