I made a true bypass switch box today. Four panel mount sockets, a 3pdt
switch and a project box, plus some hookup wire. It works fine,
apparently no clicks, and I can now add the LED indicator, which involves
a 9v battery, an LED and a ~400 ohm resistor. I made it mainly to
overcome the lack of any kind of bypass option on my Korg AX3G multiFX,
but I can see it as a good cheap option for other uses.

That's actually quite a good idea Tony. I was thinking of making one with
A/B option as well.

The only bypass switch I could find in Oz was the not-so-cheap Boss LS-2. I
bought one of those, and it packed up after a few days, so I decided to
build one myself and get something else rather than a replacement. It would
be easy enough to build a combined A/B/bypass version. The footswitch was
from a local business, Vidcam, who are a Jaycar supplier.
I bought a panel-mount LCD from Dick Smith and a collection of resistors in
about the right range to finish it off. The long connector on the LCD has to
go to positive, and it is very bright with the 560 ohm resistor I used. I
might burn out, I think a bigger resistance would be better. Also, I could
only get a plastic box from DS in the right size, so I lined it with copper
foil as shielding.

You mean "LED," not "LCD."
If you're using a 9V battery, go to a 1K current-limiting
resistor. Check your Inbox for a much better diagram
than was provided with the PG article, and note that
any "true bypass" (loop) switch can be used as an A/B box
by inputting the guitar to the regular input, and taking
the "A" output from the FX send jack and the "B" output
from the regular output jack, although no provision is
made for grounding the output not used (a good idea)
when doing it this way.
