I rewired My Schecter today.
I had never removed the pick guard until today..suprise, suprise...
I found out why the the pickups sounded so dull.
both controls were 500K linear pots (knew that from the taper) and a 47
pico farad capacitor.
It was wired for humbuckers.
The model I have is available with humbuckers (Duncan Designed HB-101)
or single coils.
Here I was thinking that it was the fault of cheap pickups...
I installed true audio pots (500K) a 22 pico farad capacitor on the
tone bleed and a 1 pico farad capacitor across the volume.
I also built a simple litte varitone circuit...
shoooot.
The difference is night & day.
I have a set of GFS lil Killer rails on their way & have wired the
guitar to suit them...I only stuck the single coils back in
temporarily.
I'm glad I did.
The varitone has a couple of usable settings...I think I can create a
few more but I will wait and wire the humbuckers in first.
This is the first rewire I have ever done folks...
hopefully it won't end in tears
lol
Linear pots, that's a bit odd. Glad you like your new tone cap.
The tone cap would be 22nF (0.022uF), not 22pF. The volume bypass pot
is probably 1n (1000pf or 0.001uF). I usually go for something around
500pF with 150K in parallel. The parallel resistor changes the pot
taper so the volume doesn't drop off quite as quickly.
Sounds like you're enjoying your modding. Good luck with the new
humbuckers. I bet you'll be thinking about coil taps soon or may be
series / parallel switching ;-)
