At least the Mesa C90 eases off the mids and is much smoother which
helps to get rid of that buzzy V30 sound. V30 are great speakers but
I really don't think they go well with the Mark III.
I dunno...I liked the V30's but not with the Ceriatone. Wayy too much
high-end. It's funny, the Ceria just needs very midrangey speakers.
What's funny to me is that my Vintage 30's do not have a lot of "HIGH" end. Just a lot of mids. Mine are "real" vintage 30, made in England, which could matter. Newer ones are Chinese.
I just found a few screen shots of pink noise into various cabinets. RTA pink noise generator > clean amp > speaker > calibrated mic > RTA.

British Celestion Vintage 30 2x12 (customized tuned cab that I built out of a JCM 800 2x12 combo cab): http://tinyurl.com/Vintage-30-2x12
Notice the smooth bottom end (small cab, but I tuned it to be smooth), the MIDS PEAK, and the slightly better high end. But I hear the mids peak more than anything else.
The 80's cab and the Vintage 30 are high sensitivity. The 70's cab is very inefficient (which works for me, because I get to crank my JMP 2204 up higher). Note the roll off on the 70's cab. That gives it the "warmer" or "darker" tone. Notice the bottom punch on both of the 4x12s.
.
The Eminence Man O War speakers are kinda similar to Lead 80'sI'd love to try it with my midrangey 4x12" with them '76 celes and
but very balanced mids and really tight top end and bottom end.
I really think half the thing is what speakers you are using to tame
the Mark III tendency to get fuzzy and waspy with lots of preamp gain.
small-magnet Ampegs!
The worst was using a cab with Greenbacks with the Mark III.There are several types of greenies around. Mine work best for that
BUT - here's the thing -- it sounded excellent on the Clean (R1) channel
using volume (preamp) on 3 or 4 and the Master turned up to around 4 or 5.
The Greenbacks did their thing and the Mark III just pushed clean
power with a little preamp sustain and slight grind.
cranked clean/driven sound, but honestly the Ampegs sound better for
drives and thats what I mike.
Cheers,
Dee
