the new Boogie has landed! GAS strikes again!

yeah well it's another long winded post.

well ok.. I just couldn't pass this up.
I traded a bunch of gear (and some cash) with a school mate/band mate
for a Mesa/Boogie Mark 1. I'm still dialing it in but
damn - I will take on ANYONE out there with sheer volume.
Marshall stacks have no chance against this thing. Really.
This will not just blow the doors down but will blow complete
neighborhoods down within a few square mile radius.
That's not a crater - someone cranked up a Mark 1 over there.
Thank goodness it has the 60 watt and tweed power switch.
My Mark III is the plain vanilla 60 watt version (which is
to say it's one of the last of the good old skool Mesas..
Mark IV was the beginning of the end - too hi-fi and processed
sounding). So this Mark 1 is even louder but it sounds great.
No mush or fizz or anything. I don't want to get tossed out
of here though so I just cranked it for a bit before backing off
and getting the volume down a bit.

Anyways - this mark 1 is amazing. It's like I stepped back
into history and am probably getting the same cool feelings
as what players felt long ago when the plugged into one of
these new-fangled "boogie" amp things. Super cool vibe.
It really is like a hot rodded blackface and sounds like one too.
Like a Twin on super vitamin suppliments. But you can also plug
into channel 2 plug and get good cleans with a hint of gain/grit in there.
Like a Twin with a tube screamer.
The input 1 (it has 2 inputs just like blackface/silverface amps)
is the gain channel and it's not anything like modern boogies -
it's not really like my Mark III either. You can tell the mark III
sounds a little more tweaked and processed (although it's nowhere
near processed as Mark IV) than this Mark 1.
This Mark 1 is a blast to play. I haven't had this much fun
in a long time playing through a new amp (well it's not new but
it's 'new' to me).

ah ok. this little amp rocks. weighs a ton too.
the transformers alone are heavier than most 1x12 combos.
the reverb is not nearly as good as long tank blackface/silverface
but it's acceptable. It's a short tank (like what's in a Princeton/Champ ?)
But it's ok. *** Dale wouldn't approve though.

The clean input 2 is really cool though.
No tube screamer is needed or boost. It's already 'in there'.
And input 1 really gets going. Not insane gain - kinda like
using a Twin with 2 tube screamers cascading into each other.
The cool thing is that it responds really well and cleans up
with the guitar volume. I'm still messing around dialing it
in because there are 2 volume knobs and Input 1 lets you use
both volume knobs (Volume 1 is gain and Volume 2 is clean)
so you can blend them in together in Input 1.

Sorry to bug you but I just had to take a break to write this.
I really like my Mark III but I just found another buddy for it.
After the rush then I'll know if the Mark 1 is the real deal.
Sometimes I have to let time go by and the initial fun factor
to wear off to see if it's a daily driver (keeper) or just
a pretty face that temporarily wowed me for a night or two...

we'll see. yeah.. post some clips! Well I don't have
any recording stuff here right now. Maybe when I get back home
and I'll take the amp with me. I don't even have my camera here
but it's a blonde boogie. And this blonde is HOT. whooo...

hmmm. actually the Deluxe Reverb is the best recording amp I have.
(best all around sounding too - it's still #1 for tones)
for some reason it just always seems to record the best.
So maybe the Mark 1 wouldn't record good anyways.. but it
sounds awesome right here in front of me and apparently
out into the hallway too and upstairs too.

maybe I should start on a paper coming due.. ahhh.. yeah..
it's cool though. some easy cheezy psych paper (it amazes me
how psych is even considered a science - how they'd get that
into the sciences is beyond me.). ah well. hmmmm...
pavlov and a dog.. err.. no... bloom and cognitive structure..
three blind mice... err.. no...
err.. I know... the Beatles! Me and my monkey! err.. no...
but that's a cool song.
