Lowering that side or pole pieces was my initial thought also. If
that doesn't work, probably a total refret, new bridge saddles, and a
nice bone nut. :-)

...And new pickups with adjustable pole pieces. I'm only half joking,
I wouldn't have a bar of any pickups that I couldn't adjust the pole
pieces.

Yep. That's one of the annoying aspects of my Highway One strat.

Yeah, I bet its got vintage stagger pole pieces <g> designed from a wound
rather than a plain third. I think Mark B said he liked this odd
imbalance,
and maybe there are plenty of others who do. - But I personally don't see
why they persist with vintage stagger when nearly everyone these days
uses a
plain 3rd string.

I resemble that. I can also move the poles on some of my pickups. What
adjustment is required?

You're *sure* they are plastic bobbin not fibre? If they are, and you use a
plain 3rd string, then the 3rd and 6th string poles need to be the lowest,
the 1st and 4th the highest at about 1/16" above the low ones, and the 2nd
and 5th mid way between the highest and lowest. The exact balance has to be
done by trial and error, but that will be close, and you use pickup tilt to
get the bass-treble balance where you want it.

This is easy if the pickups have alnico slugs, I just push them with a piece
of brass rod in the drill press. It is a bit more complicated if the pickup
has a ceramic bar magnet, because you have to remove it to make the
adjustments (which may also involve filing the iron slugs) and then reattach
it - I used double sided adhesive, but now I just buy cheap GT brand pickups
that have alnico slugs rather than a ceramic bar.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to look into the issue further. I have DiMarzio
pups in one Strat and Fender Fat 50's in the other.
