What does it mean when I boot my computer and all I get is
"Memory Test Fail" F1 for setup F2 to continue"?
It means that one of the memory modules in your computer may be
failing. It may also mean that the CMOS battery, which keeps the
computer's configuration in storage, may be worn out and the computer
has forgotten some of it's settings.
A couple of things you can try...
- if you feel comfortable getting inside the computer, open it up and
re-seat the memory sticks. You might first carefully buff the contacts
with a clean pencil eraser and then wipe them with a tissue moistened
with a little 90% isopropyl.
- hit F1 like it suggests to get into the BIOS configuration. Check all
the settings to see if they are still correct, paying attention to any
that have to do with memory. Correct them if you know what they should
be. Exit, saving changes. Sometimes it's enough just to go into the
configuration and confirm everything.
If that doesn't work, you may have a hardware failure in progress.
Thanks. I tried your suggestions and it just keeps doing the same thing. I
checked the battery and it was fine. I'm going to take it to the computer
store and see if it's worth fixing. fortunatly I never leave anything on my
computer i really need w/o a backup.
