Shit, you are having some bad luck. Providing for the NSW pollies
retirement fund?

hopefully the streak is over. i just have to be more careful like not
driving through the harbour tunnel at 100k's and not driving in bus
lanes. basicaly i have to give more of a shit. not used to driving in
syderney.

Its a bit of a bloody maze too.

an evolutionary rather than planned city, the pacific hwy out north of town
was a bullock track originally, and still about as wide. no freeway into
town on the north, it stops 16 kms short of the expressway at artarmon for
the bridge/tunnel. 6 school zones in peak hour traffic. same going west,
5kms of parramatta rd, from haberfield to concord. bloody ridiculous and no
plans in sight to ever change it.

hope my amp's ready tomorrow.
I've never tried an AC30, been tempted tho after watching Split Enz;-)
How do tho go clean? Headroom?

i originally played one in about 89 sharing with a bloke who was always
trying out different amps, every week or so there'd be a new one, of the
amps he had i tried a couple of fenders but liked vox more, the fenders
were too bright and clean.

I like bright and clean, love that chimey sound a Strat gives it.

a bit too much so for me, actually a good contrast of fender and marshall
tones is Kiss' first album with stanley playing ryhthm on a twin. not
everones cup of tea though.

it ac30 was loud in the shop through the strat i played there, also
played the epi i bouhgt through one at allans music, last year. i
haven't had the chance to crank it right up at home yet, i've had it on a
few settings and there's a 'custom' switch which i haven't found any real
noticable difference with, but the over drive kicks in pretty well on low
volumes and they run pretty hot. i've still gotta work a lot of settings
out, but there is a fair bit of loud clean headroom i've noticed.. it
sparkles, the blended channel is nice. lots of bass, where the evj is
definitely lacking. i've sat about four feet away from it at home and not
had it loud enough to feedback, does it with a ds2 tho. the tank reverb
is nice, a lot more subtle than the tr on the old peavey renown 2x10 i
have (which the evj goes through)which use to pop every time i'd switch
it on.. not too fussed with tremelo, tho i imagine it will sound better
with single coils adn a jag would be ideal for. so far the tele has me
mesmerized through it. i put my LP away when my nephew was here, and have
only played the epi, tele and strat through it. methinks it might be time
to swap out the dc's in the epi for 57 classics.

Do you have the EVJ combo or head?

combo, should have bought the head as there's an 8ohm plug in it isn't
there?

I have pretty sweet bass response on mine with the Lorantz Greenback.
Actually the Tele into the EVJ is a sweet, sweet thing. I keep playing the
Hollies "Long cool woman in a black dress" when I plug it in ;-) Ah,
toobes.

nice song, great intro, good with a touch of reverb.

i was hoping to take it up with me when I see the old man again and let
it rip on a bit of acreage but alas, it's not ready yet. people say
they're nothing like the AC30's of old but i've never played one to know,
nor one with celstion blues in it.. what appealed was it's loud, lots of
choices, nice overdrive, tremelo and reverb in the one combo. can always
swap in a pair of celstion blues later.

Nothing like scaring the wildlife;-) There was rumour of a Lyrebird that
used to mimic Hendrix back on the old farm.

I am considering a few amps (again). Plan on trying out a Peavey or two
soon, but the AC30 sounds interesting. Hendrix used one didn't he? I know
Neil Finn uses one, who else?

the beatles, jeff beck. i think page used supros earlier on (definitely in
the studio), then marshalls. pete townshend i've seen with a vox, so too
brian jones. the edge and of course brian may who made it his sound.. don't
confuse a vox sound with the really trebley british recordings of the mid
sixties though, that was more studio teeth cutting by producers not used to
recordng r&r than actual high end guitar tone.

here's a tone guide, very beatlesque player demonstrating.
