I know you do, and we disagree.
which is fine, i've asserted that I'm just guessing, these
are my opinions, based on my own twisted personal
experiences, and I could be wrong.
Same here. And we're in different areas, and know
different people.
I think this is directly related to how the general public
forms opinions on politics & news - the pre-digested,
easily-available, least-common-denominator crap
shovelled out by the smiling talking heads on TV.
People who are more serious or more interested will
learn ways to dig further.

It takes time and effort to become knowledgeable
in any field, to tell what's cheap crap and what's
the real deal. I like art, but it doesn't mean enough
to me to commit a lot of time learning about it
well said
however the apples to oranges aspect of that particular
argument is that music is LOT more readily available
for public consumption than fine art.
good point tho.
No analogy is perfect :-) There are some similarities,
that's all.

Chicks dig singers. Its in their DNA. Women dont buy
instrumental rock music, for the most part. They arent
interested.
Agreed.
--snip--
I've often said that if proficiency on a musical instrument
was a requirement to graduate from american high school,
the music scene here would be completely upside down
from what it is now.
Not even proficiency - familiarity might be enough.
Look at the percentage of people who know & follow
sports, compared to the percentage knowledgeable
about music. Then look at the budgets for each in the
schools, and at which department gets cut first.
Coincidence? I think not :-P
Bingo. I think that goes to the heart of the matter. Couple that lack
of musical knowledge with being gullible (perhaps because the schools
don't teach people to think any more), you'll buy whatever the music
industry pushes on you. Blame goes both ways, really.
