Today my 16 year old wanted to record a song he's been working on so
he could write some lyrics and try to come up with some lead parts.
So I figured this would be a good chance to have some family time.
My son really just started playing guitar in December when I bought
him one for christmas and I orignally bought my 12 year old daughter
a bass for christmas but she seemed more interested in the drums so I
started giving her lessens in mid January. I had them set up the
mics, set the mixer levels and all and we recorded live into a my
digital recorder. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out especially
considering how new both of them are to their instruments. I filled
in on bass using the $9.99 ebay special I bought my daughter.
Anyways, I figured I'd put it up on soundclick and post the link
here for anyone that would be interested in giving it a listen. The
sound quality isn't the greatest but considering it was their first
attempt at recording anything I think they did pretty dang well. My
boy, Scott, wants some opinions on whether the main riff sounds like
any other songs. I didn't think so but if it does please let us
know.

Be very proud. There's obviously more talent going on here than many
many generic rockers would ever hope to have. Trust me, I've seen
such a lot of rock'n'roll wannabies with absolutelty zero talent in
comparison who still play in bands year after year and keep dreaming
although you can just tell they'll never be able to even lock into
groove properly. That's quite an enjoyable listen even if you don't
consider the artist ages and experience level.

I wish my 3-year old will some day show some interest in making
music. I don't want to push him towards it, but would be very happy
if he turns out to be even somewhat musical. It'd be such a trip to
be able to play with my own kid, must be a blast :-)

Cheers,

Dee

It's very satisfying! I never pushed music on my kids, but I suppose
being around it all the time rubbed off on them.
Now they're all adults. #1 son is a music producer now as well as a
fantastic drummer and very good on guitar and keys. The other three
kids play as well, with varying degrees of ability/dedication.
