Go Ubuntu. It seriously covers all hardware. But your tastes may vary

I currently have it on my old laptop. I used to use Slackware and
Arch, so I still feel a bit weird using Ubuntu, but it does save so
much time setting up. When I installed it last, WiFi had a native
driver and everything was set up perfectly. There was a bug with text
size being displayed at a ridiculously large size, but changing the
graphics configuration fixed it.
The Atheros chipset in my new laptop only works with the very latest
Ndiswrapper, but it's quite easy to set up. I have NVidia graphics as
well, which always gives great performance with NVidia's Linux
drivers.
The amusing thing is, my laptop is a 64-bit dual core AMD but the
version of Windows Vista provided runs in 32-bit mode with no dual
core support.
Trust me, you dont want to use Vista x64 unless you have gigaquads of memory. Its seriously a steaming pile of crap.
Before I install Linux, though, I'm going to check out FreeBSD to see
if the WiFi will work with it. I'll probably use Ubuntu, though, just
to have more choice of software and a package manager that has never
let me down.
Yeah Ive just installed Parallels on the iMac and am about to install Ubuntu in a VM. This thing seriously kicks butt!
