Don is probably one of the best and under-appreciated guitarists there is.
The post-Felder Eagles do not exist IMHO.

I have to admit that after I learned some of this guy's stuff, I have
developed an appreciation for how good he really is. I already loved
Joe Walsh before he joined the Eagles and never understood why he
joined them at the time he joined. i thought it was a step backwards.
Mike
I know, at least when Skunk Baxter joined the Doobies, you knew it was
because he wanted to tour. I never could figure why Walsh joined the
Beagles.- Hide quoted text -

Like RG said- it must have been for the bux- if I was Joe Walsh at the
time he was, I would have said "there's not enough money for me to
join those guys", but I ain't him. I certainly don't judge him for it,
although I'm sure I did at the time. We all have to eat.
Mike
What's really wrong with Walsh's decision? I doan geddit. Is is simply
because they were successful? You really didn't like
the material when it was current? I did - I was like 13. I didn't
know any different. They got hooks like nobody since the Brill Building
writers - Carole King, Goffin, those guys.

I was just a kid as well- I was fifteen when Hotel California came
out. That song was everywhere when it came out- it was inescapable. I
hated it as a kid.

Wow. I thought it was a masterpiece.

I have grown to appreciate the musicianship it took
to write and perform this song. I had just started playing guitar and
I happened to get into Joe Walsh's solo stuff as well as James Gang. I
loved that stuff and was quite pissed off to hear that Joe Walsh had
joined the Eagles. I thought his stuff was head and shoulders better
than the Eagles. I think I still do, but like I say, I appreciate the
musicianship that the Eagles had. They did write good songs- some of
them I like, others I can't stand.

Ditto.

However, I HATED them when I was a
kid. They weren't aggressive like Aerosmith or Led Zeppelin and I was
still into Kiss fercrissakes!

Yeah. I liked Kiss and Aerosmith too, but
the Eagles were just much better adapted to radio - meaning chix
dig 'em. First paid band I played in did a lot of Fleetwood
Mac - the Buckingham-Nicks version.

For sure- strangely, I liked that version of FM, despite them being
radio-friendly "pop". Their songs were pretty moody.

Then again, I'm presently trying to get Andrew Gold's "Lonely
Boy" and "Witchita Lineman" on the songlist. Every half-arsed band in
the region plays bl00z. Want different.

Ha- I remember those tunes! WL has long been one of my favourite Glen
Campbell tunes.

I grew up on AM radio. It warped my MIND. My idea of a great set would
be "Seasons in the Sun" followed by "War Pigs", then some Junior
Brown. And Hank III. And then some Floyd, like "One Of These Days".

My little brother still makes fun of me because I owned the single of
Seasons In The Sun. I was right there listening to AM radio as well
until FM radio started playing some of the "deeper" album cuts.

That harmony, it's like the Carpenters. It's phenomenal. I don't
care if it's a bit lite on the testosterone - there's enough
of that out there already. It still sounds great.

I too am impressed that they sound just as stellar live as they do on
their albums.
I imagine a little bit of Don Henley goes a long way ( hell,
that's true when he's just talking ) but those guys were good
and they got better.

Don Henley is the Antichrist. How could he get Felder ousted from the
band like that? That is soulless and crass, IMHO.

Yeah. Not as bad as Dickie gettin' thrown out of the Brothers, though.
But we dunno the story.

That's for sure. I agree that the AB throwin' DB out was more
egregious than DF gettin' tossed from the Eagles.

Joe Walsh should
tell him to piss up a rope and walk.
Mike

Joe does not seem in that great a' shape.

Sadly, I agree. Pretty soon there won't be anyone left to put on good
shows. To me, this is a sobering thought when you think about the ages
of some of the guys in the bands that are considered "classic rock".
I'm getting there myself.
