OTOH most people don't have the ability to just 'believe' Jesus was Lord - the thing required to get saved according to much of orthodox Christianity and the thing that I think is implied by 'stop resisting my love' in this context. ... IMO a better analogy to the 'believe this and accept Jesus or you go to hell' message would be something more like saying to a single mother 'get rid of your kids or you'll stay poor and live a life of struggle and hardship'. ... I think it's self-evident that that wouldn't be a loving thing to say (even if it happens to be strictly speaking correct for some people). ...
