Re: Loudest band in the world....

that would be us at school well off campus at a friend's house (old house being rented)

we played in a room downstairs that's about 16x20 (feet)
and there was a 4x10 and another 4x10 the bass player uses and 2 4x12's and another 2x12
amps were some marshall 100 watt JCM thing (playing into 4x12)
and Mesa/Boogie 50 caliber head playing into the 4x10
and a Peavey XXX head which I think is also 100 watts playing into the other 4x12.
And there was another guitarist using a Peavey Classic 50 plugged into
this 2x12 extension cab. He is the coolest person there actually.
Plays really great and has a really laid back attitude. But back to the story -
And drum set (Tama) and a bass rig with a 4x10 bass cab which is interesting
because it is ported and gets this big deep sound I didn't think 4x10 could get -
but maybe that's because it is a 4x10 designed for bass and not 6 string guitar (?)
Anyways the bass player used some solid state amp rig with like 200 watts and it sounded
really good.

Anyways - slowly but surely volume wars erupted and it started
to sound like nuclear detonation going off. I could not
hear properly for the next 2 days. There is no way I could
ever actually play that loud on a constant basis but it was
fun to do it just for the night. It made me realize how loud
you can get with just a few cabs and amps in a practice room.
(yeah I added to the mayhem using the Mesa head there and 4x10 cab).
We started out playing at loud but good volume - but then the bass
player really started it all and he kept turning his amp up and
the drummer kept banging louder and then we just walked up and
cranked all our stuff up and blasted away - we could not even hear
the drummer when it all got out of hand. Actually he stopped after a while.
But the bass player would not give up and so the tubes were all glowing
as much as they could go. (except for him because he used a solid state
big watt amp which kep getting louder until it all got so loud all you
could do was just feel the bass thump - you couldn't even hear it anymore)

I am confident any decibel rating that night would have equaled or surpassed
any other band if we measured the sound level within the few square feet
of our room. If I was a club owner I would have thrown all of us
out the door (if we were playing that loud at a club).

So we were the loudest band of all times - even if it was
in a practice room. I need to get a set of good earplugs
before I go over there again. But usually they are cool and
really don't get into the volume thing - but that night we
turned into teen terrors and just nailed the volume.

I don't even think you would have heard a jumbo jet takeoff in there.
