This has always confused me. Why does a longer scale make the tension higher? If we exaggerate both ways, it would seem to be the other way around:

1. If the distance between the nut and and bridge were 1 inch then the tension would be quite high.
2. If the distance was 10 feet, it would be very easy to push down.


A longer string must be brought to a greater tension to reach the same pitch as a shorter string.
