It has a serial number prefix U but nowhere on the guitar does it say "Made

If I remember correctly, the Japanese Strat I had in the 80's didn't
say "Made in Japan" anywhere on it. But I can't say that I studied it
that carefully.
On the machine head it does have a fender logo all in black, and the word
stratocaster in even smaller lettering, but it doesn't have any other
markings, the serial number is printed on the back of the machine head.
Do all genuine Fender Stratocasters have the same markings, logos etc ?
You mean "headstock" instead of "machine head", right? Anyhow, some
Strats have a solid black logo. I've seen some with an outlined logo.
It all depends on the year and model.
Probably the best thing you can do is check the serial number against
Fender's website. It's not hard to fake a logo. You can even find
genuine Fender decals sold on eBay. But I doubt a knock-off would
bother to duplicate a real Fender serial number.
Besides, who would make a fake Japanese Strat? The one I had was
terrible. Maybe they've gotten better in the last 20 years. But if I
were going to produce a forgery, I'd go for a more rare and expensive
model.
