Damn it! Damn it all to hell!Heh, I know the feeling. With my Chevy Van I was at first a little worried
There. Now that's out the way, I was backing out of the driveway here and
I accidentally scuffed the next door neighbours drainpipe with my front
fender. After my initial horror, I set to it right away with some cutting
polish. Thankfully it hadn't gone down to my cars paintwork and I bless
the crystal clear coat it has on top of it. The marks buffed right out.
The Mazda6 is much wider than my previous car and getting to know it
intimately is proving to be hard work. *sigh*
about it's considerable bulk when driving in small spaces and parking areas
etc. Here's a pic of it:

I don't think I bumped it but a few times...once I reversed into this light
pole or whatever, just a minor dent in the back door, and once I turned too
sharply and the rear wheel scraped somebody else's fender leaving a black
scuff, but that was it.
I once loaned it out to a friend who didn't really understand the automatic
tranny, and failed to press down brake when he attempted to put it in gear,
and it jumped back (a beefed-up 5.7-liter V8 does that to an empty van) and
he slammed into a wall so hard the rear bumper sank in 3 inches on the right
side :-) which didn't look nice. But he apologized OK so I didn't fuss about
it.
Anyway, IMO it's best, when you get a new car, to have a friend or someone
just, like maybe have a good kick at it somewhere, or make a nice big
scratch on one door, and after that it really doesn't matter anymore. It's
just the first scratch on the new car that is bad, after that, who cares.
It's just a chunk of metal. Just like a guitar; new it's polishing and such,
but after you get the first scratch on it, soon you'll be leaving it on the
floor for the dog to chew on and so on. Just a piece of wood.
But then again, some people even wash their cars almost religiously. So what
if it gets a little dirty and scratched, as long as it won't rust. A splash
of red ferrite paint over scratches will also take care of that problem!
